Despite the precautions taken by the authorities, including the number of pro-vaccination campaigns which are in action, the flu season has been a nightmare for the common population. Now, making things worse, an even worse strain of flu is spreading across the country, says report. The difference means that Influenza A H3N2 has the predominance over the previously-common Influenza A H1N1.
“It looks like we are moving from an H1 wave to an H3 wave. There’s still a lot of flu to come,” says officials who have been analysing the conditions. It is clear as a day that the impacts of flu would be becoming even worse in the coming weeks, as the new strain is more powerful and has the capability to persist in a human body.
There are, however, two sides to this issue. For instance, officials say that the vaccine being used this year is more effective when compared to the previous year’s. That having said, the adoption rates of vaccination is going very low, even when empirical data proves that the vaccination can protect kids and adults from being affected by the virus. Of course, many initiatives are being taken against anti-vaxxers now.
“As long as flu is circulating and you haven’t been vaccinated, we recommend that you go ahead and get vaccinated,” says Lynette Brammer, who is leading the domestic influenza surveillance team at CDC. “Vaccinating the family provides a ring of protection around the baby, or any other family member at high risk for flu,” she added.
As per the data from CDC, states like Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico now witness serious issues from the flu and the situation is expected to get worse in the coming days.
